Prior to joining the Judiciary, Madam Justice Chu was a solicitor in private practice for 26 years specialising in Family Cases.

- former Chairperson of the Family Law Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong for over 10 years and a member of the Law Reform Sub-Committee appointed to consider the reform on the legislation relating to children and family dispute resolution and a member of the Law Reform Sub-Committee appointed to consider the reform on Domicile
- Former Chairperson of the Family Court Users Committee of the Judiciary
