Her Honour Judge Sharon Melloy
Her Honour Judge Melloy has been sitting as a Family Court Judge in the District Court of Hong Kong since 2007. She has been in the Territory since 1990 and is qualified as a solicitor in both England and Wales and Hong Kong. She considers herself very fortunate to have had a varied and interesting career in Hong Kong. This has included significant periods in practice as a solicitor. She also held an academic post immediately prior to taking up her present position. Whilst in academia she also set up a small mediation practice specializing in family law matters. She has an ongoing interest in alternative dispute resolution and has been instrumental in setting up the new Children’s Dispute Resolution pilot scheme in the Hong Kong Family Court.
Judge Melloy has published a number of articles and is a regular participant in family law conferences. At present she also sits on a number of committees in Hong Kong including the Family Court Users Committee, the Working Group on Children and Ancillary Relief Procedures in Family Proceedings and the Steering Group on Family Procedure Rules in Hong Kong. She is also the District Court liaison Judge for Hague matters. ABSTRACT State of the Nation This presentation will cover three different but inter related topics namely the Children’s Dispute Resolution scheme which has now been running for just over three years, what we have learnt from this and some personal observations regarding how this should be developed going forward; an update on the data from court no 4 and whether there are any noticeable changes to orders made by consent at decree nisi hearings plus a personal wish list for Children’s law in Hong Kong. |
